Basic Regional Information.

İçmeler
is an holiday resort which is only 8 km. to Marmaris. İçmeler bay is next to Marmaris bay. The town is surrounded on three sides by pine forests. Hiking on the mountains providec fantastic views of the region.

The town has developed rather fast in the last 15 years. İçmeler, today, competes even Marmaris regarding popularity among tourists and accommodation facilities.

Marmaris is an important port city and a tourist destination on the Mediterranean coast, located in southwest Turkey, in the Muğla Province.

Marmaris' main source of income for the city is tourism. As opposed to Bodrum, Alaçatı or similar Turkish coastal towns, its traditional architectural tissue has been less vividly preserved due to a construction boom of the 1980s, but Marmaris still retains its charm due to the exceptional natural beauty of its location. The district's population is estimated to reach 300,000–400,000 people during the tourism season.

It is also a major center for sailing, possessing two major and several smaller marinas. It is a popular wintering location for hundreds of cruising boaters. There are regular ferry services to the Greek island of Rhodes, and large cruise ships call at the port.

Muğla is a province in southwestern Turkey, along the Aegean Sea. Its seat is Muğla, is about 20 km. inland, but some of Turkey's largest holiday resorts such as Bodrum, Oludeniz, Marmaris and Fethiye can be found on the coastline of the province, which is the longest among Provinces of Turkey, even without taking the numerous many small islands into account. The province also boasts of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Letoon near Fethiye.

Bodrum (formerly Halicarnassus - in Greek Αλικαρνασσός-, and also, during the Middle Ages Petronium) is a Turkish port in Muğla Province. It is on the Bodrum Peninsula, near the northwest entrance to the Gulf of Gökova, and faces the Greek island of Kos. Today, it is a center of tourism and yachting. It is the ancient Halicarnassus of Caria, renowned for the mausoleum of Maussollos.

The town is very popular tourist resort for northern Europeans due to its attractive coastline and active night-life. It can safely be said that every year at least a few hundreds of thousands of tourists visit Bodrum.

Antalya (formerly known as Adalia; from Greek: Αττάλεια Attália) is the capital city of the Antalya Province, located on the Gulf of Antalya on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. The population of the city is 603,190 (2000 census) but reaches up to two million in summers at the height of the tourism season. Situated on a steep cliff, Antalya is a picturesque city surrounded by mountains, forests, mediterranean sea and many ancient ruins; with one notable archaeological museum. Recent developments in tourism sector, starting in the 1970s, have transformed the city into an international resort centre. With its airport and central location, it is a gateway for Turkey's coastal resorts which earned it the title of "the capital of Turkish tourism".

Today the city of Antalya has been transformed into a cultural and touristic hub with thematic hotels and historical sites in and around the city. Kaleici, the rustic ancient town where historic Turkish and Greek houses are under protection, is the most popular center in Antalya. Old houses that are separated by narrow, cobble-stone roads are now hotels and tourism-related shops. Traces of Pamphylian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman architecture and culture can still be seen. Also Antalya museums house the finds belonging to historic ages of Anatolia.

Konyaalti and Lara coasts inside the city are well known to have the cleanest sea in the whole Mediterranean region because of the great mass of rock where the city was built naturally purifies the sea.
